The Fishing Cat Research and Conservation Project was initiated in 2003 with the general mission of documenting wild fishing cat populations and securing their survival through responsible management of their habitats. The project
has four components—each contributing to fishing cat conservation in Thailand and throughout Southeast
Asia:
A regional
review of fishing cat distribution and conservation status,
A detailed
ecological study of wild fishing cats,
Disease screening
and genetic analysis of sampled fishing cat populations, and
Development of
active education and co-management programs in landscapes where successful
conservation efforts are likely to lead to the long-term persistence of
fishing cat populations.
